Dress Code

We do have a dress code. At Starr, it is very important to be dressed appropriately for each dance class you take! Just like you wouldn't wear a tutu to soccer practice, we would prefer you save your soccer uniform for the field! Likewise, the same thing you wear to hip hop class may not be appropriate for ballet class.

Dressing appropriately gives dancers confidence! It helps teachers better see body lines so they can help you become the best dancer you can be.

Class Descriptions

Pre Level 2-6 – Dance classes or our youngest dancers. These classes introduce the world of structured dance. A playful, encouraging environment that presents the concepts of pathways, space, body awareness, and large motor movement, using imagery, direction, and rhythms

BALLET - Ballet is the foundation of dance. Students learn highly developed technique, grace, and precision. Emphasis is placed on learning proper technique and terminology.

TAP - Tap is a type of dance that concentrates on footwork and rhythm. The name comes from the tapping sound made when the small metal plates on the dancer’s shoes touch a hard floor.

JAZZ- A great upbeat class with mix of fun and technique. Our classes emphasize the many different styles that make up contemporary jazz dancing known today.

HIP HOP - One of the most popular dance forms today...hip-hop is street dancing. Hip Hop is a breakdown of dance moves, which are then put into fun and fast paced combinations. Hip-hop teaches rhythm and coordination.

LYRICAL - A fusion of ballet and jazz technique. Lyrical challenges dancers to use motion to interpret music and express emotion. A lyrical dancer's movements attempt to show the meaning of the music

CONTEMPORARY - Offers students a chance to combine techniques of ballet, jazz, modern, and lyrical in one environment.  This class offers a unique environment to explore varied movement.

TUMBLING – Starr Dance is an Acrobatic Arts Certified Studio. We teach acrobatics that are incorporated into the different styles of dance.

COMPETITION TEAMS - Our competition teams are formed by audition over the summer. These dancers train in multiple styles and compete at competitions throughout the year.
